# How Much Does UX/UI Design Cost in 2026? What Drives the Budget

Almost every first call with a client starts with the same question: how much will the design cost? The honest answer, "it depends", helps nobody, so let's look at what the budget actually depends on. Everything below is based on how we estimate real projects in our calculator.

## The short answer

Price is the amount of work times the rate, and the amount of work is the part you can influence. Design alone, without development, grows from the smallest job to the largest like this:

- mobile app for one platform with a simple design
- website on a proven design system
- mobile app with a custom design
- website with a fully custom design
- custom app design for both iOS and Android

If the budget is tight, there is a lighter tier where we lean on ready-made components and less work goes into the design. The calculator always shows a range of ±15% around the estimate, because the exact figure only becomes clear after a brief.

## What you are actually paying for

Design is not drawing pretty screens. The work is spread across several jobs, and each one saves money later:

- research: who the users are, what competitors do, where people get stuck today
- information architecture and user flows, so every screen has a reason to exist
- wireframes, where structure gets fixed before anyone argues about colours
- visual design of every key screen in desktop and mobile versions
- a UI kit with components and states, so developers don't have to guess
- a clickable prototype to test the idea on real people
- handoff and design support while the product is being built

The classic way to save money is to skip the first three. The screens look fine, the product does not sell, and the redesign ends up costing more than the research would have.

## Five things that move the price

**Unique screens, not pages.** Fifty blog posts share one template, so they count as one screen. A catalog page, a product card, a cart and a checkout are four. The more unique templates you need, the bigger the job.

**Custom or system-based.** A custom design system takes more than twice as long as a solid set of existing components. It pays off for a product with a long life and a strong brand. For a landing page that has to go live in a month, it usually does not.

**Platforms.** Designing for iOS and Android at the same time takes almost twice the work of one platform. Each has its own navigation patterns, and users notice when an app feels foreign.

**Brand readiness.** If you have no logo, colours or fonts yet, branding has to happen first, and that is a separate piece of work.

**Approvals.** Three stakeholders with different opinions add a round of revisions to every screen. One decision maker with a clear brief is the cheapest optimisation there is.

## Fixed price or hourly?

We work in three formats. A fixed price suits a project with a clear scope: a landing page, a corporate website, a redesign with documented requirements. You know the budget and the deadline upfront. Time & material fits a product whose scope will change along the way, so you pay for the hours actually spent and can shift priorities between sprints. A dedicated team is for companies that develop their product continuously and need designers working inside their process.

## How not to overpay

Come with a brief. Even a one-page document with the goal, the audience, a few sites you like and a few you don't cuts the estimate, because nobody has to guess.

Split the work into phases. Design the MVP first and get it in front of users, then expand. Polishing screens nobody has tested is the most expensive kind of design.

Ask what is included: how many revision rounds, whether mobile versions are part of the price, whether you get a UI kit and source files. Two quotes that differ by half often describe different work.

And be careful with a full website design at a suspiciously low price. At that price you usually get a template with your logo on it, which is fine as long as everyone calls it that.

## How to get your own number

Open our [project calculator](https://ux.band/calculate), choose the type of product, the design level and the features you need, and you will see a price range and a timeline in a couple of minutes. After that, a manager goes through the details with you and fixes the exact estimate.
